Hell everybody. I may be switching from my S4 to a Maxx HD via Verizon's alternate device replacement. How's the reception on the Maxx HD?

Cool. Mine is supposed to be at my house by Tuesday. The 5 days after that I will have to really put it through its paces.

When I was researching phones last December it was between the S3 and the Maxx HD. I checked the signal meters on both of them side-by-side in the Verizon store. Maxx HD definitely had the best reception.

It sounds like you shouldn't have given in. While the Maxx HD has better signal its WiFi signal will drive you insane. The screen is awful due to its Pentile grid too. Besides, the RAZR HD isn't even in the same league anymore. Its nearly a year old while the S4 is new. You should attempt to push for a Droid Maxx at the very least because its the closest thing to the S4 right now.

I've gotten Verizon to let me go from a RAZR HD to a Note II before so its possible.

I will be pushing that direction. I went from a Thunderbolt to a Bionic to the Rezound and only paid for the original Bolt. I plan on going through as many Razr Maxx HDs as it takes for them to admit defeat.

Verizon once told me the only comparable device to the RAZR HD Maxx was some LG phone that was half a year older. I declined and told them that the Note II, while an Iconic device at the time, is the closest to the RAZR HD Maxx. I compared battery, performance, etc in my words. I was successful not only for me but my buddy too.

I swapped out my S3 after 6 months for the Maxx HD. Zero dropped calls in the past 6 months since doing so, compared to hundreds with the S3

I've had 2 Razr Maxx HDs now and both have dropped wifi connection every 3 to 5 seconds. I unchecked the avoid poor connections box and also chose the 2?ghz band for wifi. Still dropped. Chose the other wifi band and same results. On both units.

That's the norm. Both 2.4 and 5 bands drop and there isn't a thing you can do about it. :(

Oh good grief. I just saw I left the "o" off of hello.
The norm? Well, I need to look at some other model then. That's the text book definition of defect.

I think "norm" is a bit misleading. Enough people have had problems with wifi that there's something going on. But many, many more haven't had any such issues. I've had mine since it was released last October and my wife got hers as soon as she saw mine. Neither phones have ever dropped wifi after I configured them (2.4 GHz only and wifi sleep never). We're both home a lot and carry our phones from one end of a fairly big, two-story house to the other, plus outside on decks and in the garden. They have never disconnected from our router once. I have about a dozen SSIDs saved, including several friends' houses, my sister's house, a bunch of Starbucks, etc., etc. The phone connects flawlessly and has never dropped a connection at any of those sites.

As I said, some people had issues. I don't think we know if it was a bad batch of hardware, a driver problem, one or more apps that are causing issues or some other problem. But my experience with the radios in these phones has been great. And I know of several others who also have this phone and report no problems.

Maybe it was an overstep but I still see tons of people complaining about them. I went through 5 of them and so did my friend and every single one had issues. I went onto the Motorola forums and the only people that didn't complain at that time were those with custom WRT firmware on their routers. I cant understand why so many people had issues and there are still complaints. The strange thing is my phone didn't "disconnect" but rather told me I had WiFi but wouldn't load a web page. I had to disable WiFi and then enable it for it to do anything. I had it set to never turn WiFi off and hold a connection even when weak.

I really wish we had concrete numbers but you are lucky. The WiFi was the main reason I gave up on the phone. No other devices in the networks never had an issue. I was able to use laptops, other phones, tablets (including a Motorola tablet), game consoles (tested, I always use wired) and others. Just the 5 Droid RAZR HD phones couldn't hold.

As long as it works for you that's fine. But what's odd is those WiFi analyzers always said I had superb signal when it stopped loading. The phone just refused to update anything data wise and it wasn't my network. I would like to mention that my close friend who has the phone still is still experiencing these issues so I'm not just talking about the past.

Put me down as someone that has never had a problem with my phone and wifi. Put down my wife and son as two more people. We all got our phones in early December and they've all been fantastic. Have a two story house with 3,000 sq. feet, router is in basement in a room at the end of the house. No problem with wifi anywhere in the house. Also have been able to connect to wifi everywhere I've gone--friend's houses, sports stadiums, doctor's office, etc. I've never even had to think about it.

Mind if I ask what router? I'm not saying its not possible so don't take my posts as such. I just know I could be right next to my router and the phone would say connected but randomly stop loading at all.

I have two routers at home, with one a bridge repeater to the other. One is a Linksys E4200 with stock firmware and the other a Linksys E3000 running DD-WRT. The phone has not problem with either the main or the repeater router. But as I said, it works flawlessly with so many hot-spots that I have saved I really don't think the problems you and others have had are determined by the router. It's more likely a batch of bad radios in the phones or a software problem, like an interaction between a driver and a third-party app. FWIW, neither of our phones are rooted.

It's an ASUS RT-N56U. It's a great router except on occasion the router will freeze for a second and the router log will have messages "not enough room in management ring". When it happens it seems symptomatic of my phone dropping wifi but it simultaneously happens to all wireless devices in the house--laptops, iPods, and PC's--so I know it's not my phone. If you suspect your phone is dropping wifi, note the time and check the router logs for errors.

Good to hear its not everyone. I originally used a Linksys e3000 with up to date firmware. I have since ditched Linksys home networking products due to their inability to work properly with Xbox Live and NAT. It is usually fine for 6 months and then fails. Happened to me and another friend so I said enough. Went through 4 Linksys models overall. Attempted to open ports manually, assigned my Xbox its own IP among other things and failed. My NAT every day randomly reset to Moderate from Open and required me to log in to my router and just hit Save without changing a thing. :/

But fast forward to now I'm using this router and the RAZR HD had a ton of issues too.

Asus makes great stuff BTW. Never had to reboot this router for any reason and I've had it since last 2012.

So, when you say good to hear it's not everyone, are you getting the "not enough room in management ring" error with your Asus router?

Prior to the Asus I had a Netgear 3300. It was OK but the range on the Asus blows it away.

I don't have the phone anymore but my friend does. There is no error at all - the signal either drops completely or claims I have signal but no web pages will load. The router is just fine.
