Rogers Canada S4 4.4.2 no stock emoji????

Hey,

I recently made the switch from my Iphone 5 to a S4 about 3 days ago. I have had many problems already. YES I turned off Imessage before switching to the SIM in my Galaxy.

Anyway, I noticed throughout these forums that the recent update should have built in emoji! I know there are many many 3rd party keyboards to download such as Textra, and chomp. I liked Textra, but would prefer a keyboard with the Iphone emoji so they are easier to send to my friends as they ALL have iphones.

SO.... I have a unlocked Samsung galaxy S4 model I337M running 4.4.2 with baseband version I337MVLUFNI2.
I connected to Kies and it says I have the latest firmware etc... I have seen that people have the emoji under the little gear, but when I click and hold it there is no smiley? This is really bugging me. I know there are other keyboards that I will most likely download, but I am curious why I don't have this!


ALSO..... I am not able to have a group chat with Iphones. I have been researching since I got the phone and can't find an answer. Is this something to do with Rogers, or the past update? When I create a group and send the message it converts to MMS as I have the "Group Messaging (Send a single message to multiple recipients)" checked off. When the message is sent it only sends as individual sms as well as the responses are individual. I have read that the Iphone users may need to check off "send sms" option under Imessage settings? I have disabled any other SMS such as the ChatOn etc. I downloaded the app called GroupMe which I am able to have a group chat there. My iphone friends all received different numbers that they had to add to my contact to show up as myself. So that is a weird way to group chat for now.

ANY information would be awesome as I am very new to this all.

Sorry no solution.. having the same issue, I read how to and everything says it will be there when I hold down the whatever key, but like yourself.. all the little icons EXCEPT the smiley face show up.. maybe its Rogers.. that wouldn't surprise me

I have the same issue on Telus. I got my s4 a month ago and when I first got it the emoji were definitely there. About a week ago I noticed they were gone. My husband doesn't seem to have them either. There were about three updates that the phone got after I got it. Maybe one of those did something to the emoji.

Yea, simply Canada S4s I'm guessing? The S4 was originally from Bell. But oh well, Textra SMS will do the job. Thanks for the replys

i have the same issue on mts i think its just canadian s4's in canada my girlfirned has the s5 and the s5 gets the emojis its dumb also the s4 mini gets the emojis its really stupid in ord to get the iphone emojis on the s4 download the messaging app called messaging+ 6 and the emoji plug in for it thats what i did

Here is what worked for me:

I went to the Playstore and downloaded the Google keyboard.

Then I went to settings > my device > language and input and changed my default keyboard to Google Keyboard and enabled the Google Keyboard (instead of the default Samsung keyboard that youe phone is automatically set up with).

Then when I go into my text messaging I hold down the "enter" key and the smiley pops up to open the emoji keyboard.

I read that on the "Samsung keyboard" you can just hold down the "microphone" symbol next to the space bar and the smiley to switch to emoji will pop up, however, when I hold down that microphone there is no smiley...Weird enough - but once I switched to the Google keyboard (which actually resembles the iPhone keyboard) and held down the enter key finally I found the smiley!!! The symbols are the same as the iPhone emojis, they just look slightly different. Like the cat with heart eyes is a different looking cat but they still have all the same emojis (like they have the **** emoji but the **** looks slightly different lol)
