Hey guys, thought I would share that punk.kaos (whom some of you may know from HTC Eris fame) has released a VERY alpha build of froyo for the fascinate! The faint of heart need not apply as most things hardware related are currently broken, but exciting none the less. Currently, you can make calls and not much else. Hit the link to go to his XDA thread if you're ballsy enough to try it, or if you just want to follow the development. Fascinating (get it? GET IT!?!?) stuff.

[ROM] [ALPHA] [FROYO] Kaosinate V0 - xda-developers

Oh, snap! Almost forgot to mention this is CM6 based.

Do you know if it is stable enough for daily use? I am not really looking for anything special...just phone, sms, music and videos. Does it have a support for xvid?

Data is still iffy for some. Requiring you to put in a code in a terminal app very often to kick start the data again. Other then that, check the XDA post that was linked in the OP for whats working and whats not.

Sounds like it's still to infantile for that yet. Give it a couple weeks to smooth out and I'm sure many people will be using it.

It is on version 4. Getting closer, but not ready for daily use. MMS doesn't work, and the SD card doesn't mount, among other bugs. Check out the thread on XDA for the latest.
I tried it, and within the limitations of being an alpha build, it was very smooth, and I got the best Quadrant score ever on my phone. If we could get a leaked Froyo kernel for them to tweak, this would be better than stock 2.2 by far.

Both him and JT are working on 2.2, Kaos on a Cyanogen based rom and JT on AOPS. Both are very early Alpha, and not quite ready to serve as a full-time system.

I've tried both, and they both have issues remembering WiFi settings. They'll connect fine at first, but then fail to remember the settings and/or refuse to connect at all after some period of time. Camera and video playback are limited or not functional at all, haven't tried music.

GREAT start, and they're making a lot of progress in a short period of time though, so I'm not complaining.

If you're going to try one out, JT's is easier as it doesn't require a Voodoo kernel, which Kaos's does.

I tried this out but had issues with google apps. Will give this a run again to see how it looks after the next update.
