Installation Instructions (For Dummies)
*I strongly recommend you take advantage of A2SD and the extra internal storage that comes with it!*

Intro:
This rom uses A2SD to optimize internal space.
-A2SD when used properly will increase Internal Storage a ton. (I've currently got 180mb of free Internal)
-A2SD works by creating symbolic links and moves the majority of app data to the sd card as well as dalvik if you want.
-This rom uses A2SD by default (if you partition properly)...removing the sd card will cause a loss of Apps added outside of the rom itself.
ie user apps.

However, the use of a2sd will not degrade performance at all...it simply frees a ton of internal storage.

You Need To Download AreaRomQ v1.4.zip
YOU DO NOT NEED TO REPARTITION THE SDCARD IF YOU HAVE CREATED AN SD PARTITION IN THE PAST!!!

Section One:
Okay so you want to use A2SD... AWESOME!

Follow These Steps Exactly!!!
Step 1:Backup all the data on your sd card you want to save to your computer.

Step 2: Reboot into recovery/Boot into recovery
(You do so by powering the phone off. Holding down the physical home button below the screen,
the volume rocker down button, and finally the power button all at the same time until you enter
ClockWorkMod (CWM) recovery)

Step 3: In CWM/ClockWorkMod recovery go to the advanced option and select "Partition SD Card"

Step 4:Select your partition size. (I recommend 512mb though 1024mb will work depending on what you're trying to do)

Step 5:Select a 0mb swap partition size. (Swap is more harm than beneficial. DONT USE IT!)

What you did here was create an ext4 partition on your sd card for a2sd to use.

Step 6:Go to Mounts and Storage in CWM and select "mount USB storage"

Step 7: Restore your sd card data.

*Including the rom you want to flash*
IF EVERYTHING HAS GONE RIGHT UP UNTIL NOW PROCEED TO STEP 8... if not start over...

Step 8:Go ahead and wipe cache/wipe dalvik cache and wipe data/factory reset.

Step 9:Flash your rom... (install .zip from sd card)

Step 10: When the phone boots up enter your account information and let it sit until sync finishes...
-i.e. let the phone sit for a few minutes after putting your account info in.
(Your signal bars will be cyan and the sync icon will dissapear from the Notification/Status Bar)

Step 11: Open Terminal Emulator (It's preinstalled!) and type "su" *without quotation marks* and press enter.
-Grant Terminal Emulator SuperUser Permissions (HIT YES)

Step 12: Type "a2sd cachesdreset" and hit enter.

The phone will now reboot. It will take awhile...don't panic! The phone is moving and building Dalvik-Cache onto the SD.

Step 13: I recommend rebooting the phone after moving dalvik to the sd. Meaning... you let the phone boot up after it reboots from
the "a2sd cachesdreset" command. Then reboot the phone one more time. This helps the phone get adjusted to the rom and all the
benefits that come with it. :)
Thats it! A2SD is now properly enabled and working *Go ahead and check your internal storage :)*
Proceed to restore your TiTanium Backup of your apps...
In TiBackup hit the menu key and select Batch. Then Run "Restore Missing Apps With Data"
---Thats it :)

Congratulations you're now running AreaRomQ v1.4 with A2SD enabled!!!
Android Area51

INCLUDED BELOW IS A GOOGLE PLAY .APK. SHOULD THE MARKET IN THIS APP NOT AUTOMATICALLY UPDATE, DOWNLOAD THE GOOGLE PLAY APK. PUT IT ON THE ROOT OF YOUR SD-CARD. THE FILES:

Download ARQ v1.4 NOW!!!

==============================================================================

Release Notes:

To Maintain the rom:

Go to terminal and type su
Grant SuperUser permissions and type vac
This will vacuum your .db's that may become fragmented overtime. Don't pay attention to any errors you see.

Go to terminal and type su
Grant SuperUser permissions and type sclean
This will clean and rebuild your dalvik-cache on startup (it will reboot). It will take awhile to reboot do not worry... that's normal.

I recommend running the above once a week.

To make use of the ChainFire3d Rendering, open the app. Install its driver, let the phone reboot. Then go to NightMode and set a color in the app. Enjoy...

I installed your rom, and its awesome, but it wont let me use droidsail app2sd, or4 let me access the market anymore. any help would be cool

alot of apps are force closing too

market

Read the post on that thread. If the market is force closing clear its data... repeat that for every app you're experiencing it with. It's because you didn't allow the market to update to Play. The apps are using the play store to check validity of the purchase. The release thread that the download link directs you to has the stuff you need. Believe me it'll be fine. This has been an issue related to the Play upgrade. Unfortunately if I didn't restore the original market it would have made purchasing apps impossible. Sorry for the inconvenience. Clear the data and let the play store upgrade. In the release thread is a Play apk to help make this process easier if it wont automatically update.

Also... with this rom we made use of A2SD making apps2sd useless. Please follow the install instructions exactly. You'll quickly see there's no need for apps2sd anymore. By using a2sd the /data ext is moved to your new ext4 sd-ext partition.

:) cool cool. Sorry about that inconvenience... If the markets not given a chance to update to Play thats an issue. But, once its updated everything is smooth sailing. I assure you I wouldn't release anything without thoroughly testing it first. If you run the a2sd cachesdreset command you'll likely see over 170mb of internal storage. Please don't panic through the reboot though. It will take approximately 4-5 minutes to reboot. But once done you'll see a huge boost in the Internal Storage. I've got roughly 40 apps on my phone and have 183mb of internal storage. This works by moving /data and the dalvik-cache to the sd-ext partition. Included is OpenGL rendering a la cyanogenmod7 which allows a OpenGL driver to sit between you and the device allowing for complete graphics rendering of colors and other features. This allows you to quickly theme the device. Short of a cyanogenmod kernel with theme engine this is an awesome feature. It will however slightly effect battery life. Though the battery life and performance should now be improved over stock. Thank you again for trying it out. I hope you enjoy.

Protip: I suggest using the new extra settings feature in Settings to make your Transition and WIndow Animations Fast. I also recommend reading through the maintenance steps. And for a quick speed boost open terminal emulator grant it SuperUser permissions by typing su and hitting yes at the prompt. Then type start super_service <-- exactly like that. Enjoy :)

What ever happened with AreaRom on the Slider? Version 1.0 was released and never got an update.

Not dead...

And the Slider Rom is simple... Just take the Q rom and flash it. And do an advanced restore of just the boot.img. This will leave you with ARQ v1.4 on your Slider. (That is if you have a backup on your sd card.)... try it out and let me know.

Will do when I get home, I'll let you know how that goes

It works doin that except I cudnt get the wifi to hook up lol

So question jcole are all the q roms like that? Where u can flash the boot.img over the rom and it works or is it jus on the arearom that that will work?

Sent from my LG-VM701 using Android Central Forums

Every q rom... the only difference is in the keymapping at a kernel level. So... yes.

Cool jus lookin at some new options till u awsome guys get some new stuff out or I grow a pair an start learnin how to do some work on my own lol thanks for all ur guys hard work with all this

I'm running 1.4 on my Q. Today the notification light started blinking for no apparent reason. No missed calls, voice mails, unread texts or emails, or calender alerts. Rebooting does not stop it blinking. If some other app is trying to notify me I can't figure out which one it is. Could this be a ROM issue? It's never happened before.

While I'm on the topic, can you change the blinking rate of the notification light in the ROM? Right now it comes on for 1 second then goes off for 10. It makes the light almost useless as you have to look at the phone for 10 seconds to know if the light is blinking or not.

Never had that reported for so I think its a fluke or you're missing something. As far as the blinking rate... mine stays on. It doesn't blink, but ill look for a build.prop tweak to adjust this blink rate.

Update v1.5 is on the way. Red theme, jit enabled, benchmarks now over 1800. To compare... stock is around 1600. A2SD enabled... all apps updated. Graphics rendering a la cyanogenmod7, beats audio enabled, dsp manager, v6 supercharger, flash... basically nothing for the q or slider can touch it. Ill be finishing it up tomorrow or the next day. . . Sound engine is crazy, better battery life, notification toggles, new updated sound libs, graphic libs, performance is amazing.

Do what I did, this worked for me.

Flash the Q rom
Flash GingerKernel for the Slider

And that's how I get it to boot, with working wifi and the correct key mapping. The only thing that seems out of place is the build.prop, which also needs to be tweaked.

Hopefully this info helps anyone trying to run a Q rom on the Slider, it worked for me and should work as well for you all :)

Edit: I almost forgot to mention, jcole mentioned that exchanging the boot.img of a Q rom with that of a Slider rom will break ADB, you have been warned. Otherwise it should work just fine with everything else.

K so I finished arearomq v1.5 in both red and cyan themes. Its in beta testing now. We're now over 1900 on antutu benchmarks (that's a 300 point improvement over stock). I think we just killed the competition on the slider and q both with this one...

Will go public in a few days...
