Out of curiosity, which other ROMS have you tried, and how does it compare to them in terms of speed/smoothness/battery life?

I've been looking at meanrom, and especially v1.0 looks really promising.

I've been following that since he posted, but I was kinda waiting for new versions to stabilize a little before flashing. This guy takes "daily dirties" to a whole new level, lol. There's a new version nearly every day, sometimes two. Speaks well to the level of support he's providing.

I would love to try one but I'm so afraid I will brick it and never hear the end of it from my wife.

I just did it, with no issues. I think it would be pretty hard to mess up the rooting process, they've made it really easy at this point. I am currently running Mean Rom and have been experiencing no issues.

For those running this ROM, how is the multi-tasking? Is it improved? I didn't see much talk regarding memory management in the XDA thread.

Mean is a Sense based rom so it's still going to be multitasking in basically the same way. However there are some tweets to some of the values (and mean I think does them) once you root to help the memory issues some that in turn should make Sense less aggressive in shutting down apps.

To truly multitask we will need a ASOP ROM (like CM- 9) when it comes (the APOK ROM is not fully functional yet)

Yeah, I haven't seen any hard data on any of the Sense-based ROM threads that lead me to believe that any devs have baked in any true memory management tweaks. I also getting a sense that there are some processes in the kernel that kill off apps as well, so what we really have to wait on is source to drop before we see any true headway with the multitasking on Sense ROMs.
I've tried CM9 and it works beautifully; it just seems a little flaky around the edges to be a true daily driver yet.

Some of the recent posts in the Mean thread on XDA indicate there is some improvement. I assume its by changing the min values which other treads indicate helps a bit.

Any word on LTE working or not on the custom ROMs? I just loaded this ROM up and I noticed that if I turn on LTE, I get NO data, but if I switch back to CDMA, my 3G comes right back.

From what I understand there shouldn't be an issue with Sense based ROMs and 4g, if it is available to you. I haven't noticed any big improvement to the multitasking issues. It does seem to load Sense less when returning to the home screen. Other than that, browser pages reload when I go back to browser from another app, so the issues (or features if you work for HTC :-0 ) are still there. I really hope we get a functioning CM9 or CM10 at this point. I just got a Nexus 7 and ASOP Jelly Bean kicks ass compared to what we have with Sense.
