I am pretty new to the whole rooting, flashing roms etc.. Well i rooted my Evo with Unrevoked, installed Rom Mnanager from the market, bought the pro version, and i download Cyanogen 6.1.. it was too easy! and its awesome.. k so my question is, how do I switch Roms? like i see the list of roms on the RM app, but for example last night I tried to switch to the MYN Warn Rom, and my phone was really buggy so i went back to CM. But i think i did something wrong because when you install CM is just ask for 2 options: backup and restore, and wipe and clear chace. When i download the other rom it has A LOT of other options like what kernel i want, what font... its confusing...what am i suppose to choose, and does it hurt if i choose more than one? Do i choose them all? Please help out a newbie to this.. also am i suppose to wipe every time i switch roms?

Hey Jesse, at first, I would choose none of the options for the ROM if you're not familiar with them - you can always check over at XDA and actually see what the options are. (when I tried myn's warm I went all with the stock rom at first)

To make them less buggy, when Rom Manager asks you to backup your current rom and to wipe the data, always choose wipe data! (you have to when going from CM6 to a sense based rom)

Hey Fred! Again you come to the rescue! Hope you had a good weekend, man i so glad that you showed me how to do all this, it made my weekend man! its so freaking AWESOME!!!!! ok now back to the topic.. ok for example.. right now i am going to do it.. you are saying to not check anything at all? just leave it as is, download it, wipe all data, and reboot?

Yup, just until you get more familiar about what all the extra options are.

You can always flash again :)

Make sure you have a backup though of your current ROM so if you don't like it, you can "always go home" without having to go through the motions of installing apps and setting up accounts, etc.

Wow... I am wondering how come I never did this before! I have been with Android since the G1, and wow.. Alright Fred one more question for you.. How do I do a back up? I was recommended to Titanium Back app, do I need this, is there another way?

Jesse,

To back up your rom, shut off the phone, and then hold down the bottom volume and the power button, until white screen. And go down to Recovery and hit the power button. After that is done, go to NANDROID and then hit the power button. You'll now see Back up and Restore, obviously choose back up, and then it will back up your latest ROM.

and do you same thing if you want to restore, but obviously, hit restore instead of back up.

Just use "backup current ROM" in rom manager, or select the box before you flash a new ROM "backup current rom" (along with with data).

Ok...UM... i went to the Rom Manager, and saw the option to back current rom, i renamed it CM 6.1 and hit ok...now my phone is rebooting..am I going to be ok? And sorry i did this before you replied.

That's totally fine.

Then you can go ahead and switch ROMs, just re-install rom manager and go to manage backups (something like that), select the one you want and hit "restore".

If things start getting out of control you can backup your sdcard/clockworkmod folder to your PC if you need more space :)

Interesting question, they are ALL customizable. Check out this thread:

(i use iNexus on cm6 and really dig it)

Hey guys, does your WIFI work on CM 6.1.1? When I flashed it Saturday night everything was amazing except for the wifi, I couldn't connect to my router.

Alright Fred, flashing...NOW! BTW Yes my Wifi works perfectly, I would turn it on then off ( wifi) it worked for me.

@fred Is it hard to do what you have done like run iNexus on CM? I am guessing thats a theme correct?

Yeah it's a theme - you have to booth the phone in to recovery to install a theme (to clear cache & dalvik without erasing anything else).

Most of the theme threads will have instructions on how to install it.

Fred... I am amazed by MYN rom...wow..... speechless, even the Market is black. amazing! Now let see how fast it is compared to CM. By the way from your ecperience with Roms, do they use less or more battery than Stock not rooted phones?

It depends on the ROM and how you use it, the Evo is a beast no matter what software it's running and it need it's juice!

True. Hey how do I customize MYN, like changing the look of the Status bar etc... or can I? Like CM.

On it now... By the way Fred what phone are you rockin ? And what is your favorite Rom and why?
