Just passing this along.

First, I am completely inadequate when it comes to tech stuff. But I can follow directions and ask for clarification. If I cand do it, most anyone can. (especially those with the good taste to get a dinc)

Second, tomorrow is the big day. But if you wake up and Santa didn't come just know that rooting is doable, slightly risky and worth it.

Now, if you mess up your phone, sorry. You can write us all cautionary tales. But don't blame me. THERE IS SOME RISK, ASK and RESEARCH!!! BE PATIENT!!!

Now the good part. My wife has a dinc also. Her's is 2.1. I was just playing with them both together. My 3g speeds are almost twice the speed with the new radio. 1.3 mbs vs. .7 mbs. The benchmarks on CPU and filesystem are 4 times better.

The extra apps and freedom you get are just bonuses. The wireless tether is great. On and on.

The best way I can put this is the move from 2.1 to 2.2 is as dramatic as the move from BB Storm to Dinc.

Hopefully you get Froyo tommorow. If not, don't cry, research.

Speaking as someone who hasn't rooted yet for a number of reasons, I always find it good to hear from others who aren't very tech savvy who have done it and are happy with the results. I'm sure it's a simple process, but I honestly haven't taken the time to find the right set of instructions to use and am still a little intimidated when reading some of the posts in the root forum that describe bugs and other problems.

Thanks for the post Kratzer. What instructions did you use? I might give it a try this weekend if there continues to be no word on an OTA update from Verizon.

Waste of a thread?? Don't you think that was a little harsh? The OP was only offering some encouragement to those that are anxiously waiting for 2.2 and stating that the root process isn't as difficult as some may think and to consider that an option if 2.2 doesn't come soon.

Folks need to understand there is a wide variety of users on these forums and not everyone is elbow deep in the technology world, especially now that smartphones are becoming more a part of the mainstream population.

Yeah, this thread was moved here, and it makes no sense here. I was just tired of all the "where's froyo???" b###@ing.

I was just saying, hey, its not hard. The roms are good. Move on. Don't depend on rumors and promises.

Again, this is a waste of a thread for here...because we are cool. But for the unsavoy, it was meant as an encouragment for others to jump.
