ROOT before or after 2.3 update ?

I'm on Captivate 2.2. Rogers wireless has an update to 2.3. I also want to ROOT my phone using the superoneclick root method. If I ROOT 1st - does it carry over when I update to 2.3 - If I update 1st to 2.3 - I dont see a superoneclick root method to perform ?

I've thought about rooting my phone. I just don't know what the benefits are. Is there any anything else other than customizations?

Upgrading your phone would undo the root. At the moment, you can't root a Gingerbread Captivate with Super One Click, either. Rooting an upgraded device requires a few more steps. You can find out a lot about that and all of the benefits of rooting by visiting the appropriate thread on the forum. There are lots of them lol
