Root dangers/vulnerability?

Surely you'll want UX 4.0 when it comes to the G3? I personally love Lollipop, on the G4 the lockscreen notifications are fixed so look forward to that making it to the G3 too.

UX 4.0 isn't coming to the G3 is it? I thought is was for the G4 only? And its pretty ugly like the last two versions.

It looks like an improvement on the G3 I reckon. I assumed it would come to the G3, where did you hear it wouldn't?

If you like customization, if you want your phone to be truly unique and to stand by your whims and fancies, I suggest root your phone.

I got OTA for Lollipop long time back and it literally killed my phone's life to half. I downgraded my phone back to stable KK, rooted it and have improved the performance and battery life by a significant level. Further more, I have done loads of changes to the GUI to suit my own taste.

Sharing, the screenshots with you.

Yes it is really easy. You can use the LG flash tool and unroot it simply in couple of clicks. No harms at all.

Honestly, you won't want to un-root the phone unless you sell it. In which case, it is very easy to do.

I'd want to unroot for updates. I know you can flash them but that's a little more complicated than the simple root process.

No you wouldn't !! Lollipop is so messed up with almost every phone and carrier you do not want to take an ota update.

My G3 isn't on a carrier, I live in the UK and bought it outright so the updates just come from LG, which means less issues.

He's right, you know. Stock updates almost always pale in comparison. Also, even if you did want to just stick to stock, you wouldn't want to upgrade from your current firmware. Ideally you should flash the update after a full wipe. This is why everyone is always recommending a factory reset after an OTA upgrade like Lollipop.

I was concerned about security issues and found this post helpful :
Rooting your device in and of itself
does not make your phone more
susceptible to outside intrusion. What
it does it is allow you administrative
privileges to your device. So as long
as you are mindful of what you do
beyond rooting you are perfectly fine.
It's just like having admin rights on a
network computer. And if it's the
rooting process your concerns about
rest assured it is fairly simple these
days, most requiring a few clicks.
