Root help please

I have the Samsung Epic 4G I have been trying to root. The phone runs Gingerbread 2.3.6 build FC09. I have been following the steps in this video

I get to the step to put the phone into download mode and when I plug the phone back in when it is in download mode the computer no longer recognises the phone. I have USB Debugging Mode Checked. I have reinstalled and installed the drivers. I have used a different USB cord. I have tried all my USB portss. And nothing. The computer still does not recgonise it.

Please help. I really need it.

Make sure you have the phone on USB debugging mode.

I have the phone in USB Debugging Mode. That was the first thing i did. But it still isn't working and now my computer isn't regonising my phone at all.

Try a blackberry microUSB cable (staples has these) + keep your internet on in case the PC seeks different drivers.

Try different versions of ODIN (1.61 is great).

Have your device connected to the PC via cable, DL mode ON, THEN turn on ODIN, see if that gets your device detected.

Okay cool thanks. My computer now though has completely stopped recongising my phone I have unstalled and reinstalled the drivers and everything

Did you download the drivers from samsung? I have had my comp not recognize my phone as well and got the new drivers directly from samsung and all is well.
