Root Method?

So, as stated before it the root method for the 10.1 is the same as the 8.9 However in the 10.1 forum it now shows that the Method does not work. Does anyone know of a different way to work around it? Or is anybody working on it? All these extra apps on here are killing me. I have 3 music players 3 video players. all sorts of news apps I dont use. and countless other redundant apps.

I dont want to just hide them, I want them gone.

Also does anyone know a way to change the 5 or 6 apps that you can pop up from the task bar like task manager calculator music player. I use 3 of them and want to change out the others.

Thanks for any tips or tricks. This 8.9 thread has been slow so I thought Id see what I could spark.

Hey, Thanks, It worked perfect and was the easiest root I have ever seen. I had a few hicups at the begining but that was just me being a spaz. But it was simple easy, perfect and now I got rid all the extra crap on it.

So I just rooted my 8.9. After booting up i then installed superuser from market. What things can I do with it rooted device? Also, anyway to unroot? Thank in advance

Hey, Download Titanium Backup in the market to delete unwanted apps.

Stuff you can do. the biggest thing so far for me was get rid of all the extra apps. I havnt looked but i dont think kthere are any custom roms yet.

Oh and you can un root it I believe. If you go to the samsung website it gives you the directions to do a factory reset. you will loose everything but it believe it will be unrooted. someone correct me if i am wrong as I have never done this

You don't need titanium backup to delete apps from the phone. Terminal emulator will work and I believe app managers can do it, such as Astro file manager.

If you want to backup and restore apps, then use titanium

Yes this method does work for the 3G model, as reported by XDA users on the thread listed above. Shouldn't have no problem. This package doesn't do anything massive thhat could brick it so your safe

This method does not work on the LTE model. Sweet tab but there is allot of fluff that needs to go.

I just got my Galaxy Tab 8.9, and I seem to be having issues rooting it. When I boot into recovery, I don't have an option to install from SD card, rather it says install from external storage. Choosing that option all I get is an error saying E:Unknown volume for path [/sdcard] and the only selection option to choose is ../

Anyone have some ideas what the problem might be?

Found a solution. Download and unzip Odin onto your computer, and follow these instructions. Then it should be as simple as doing the ol' "install zip from sdcard" and selecting root_original.zip.

If for any reason you decide you want to restore the stock recovery, the same page that has instructions on how to install CWM Recovery includes a download link to the stock recovery.

Same problem here. What probably would have worked is if I had rooted the phone after I had factory reset, but before I updated from Android 3.2 to Android 4.0.4. Kies was having problems detecting the device before I factory reset it, and the Software update app was working, but it would fail at 15% when on the bootloader, updating the OS.

Edit: As well, attempting to flash Clockworkmod Recovery from ROM Toolbox does not work. However, I do have a fastboot console application, left over from when I rooted my HTC EVO 3D. Any ideas? There is a update command on fastboot, which might allow me to get it rooted. However, I don't want to brick my tablet. If using the fastboot update command works the same as if I updated from recovery, let me know, and I will see if that works.

Edit2: I assume factory resetting the tablet now would just restore 4.0.4, not 3.2. However, if factory resetting the device WILL restore it to 3.2, I will probably see if I can root it then. Doesn't work.

Was this in response to my previous post? If so, thanks for the reply. I've actually gotten this resolved, but I'm still not able to get my tablet rooted. The zip files executes with no problems that I can see, but it doesn't successfully achieve root. I had updated the firmware via Kies, and I'm wondering whether Samsung has blocked rooting as a result.
