Root that works with Good Mobile messaging

I'm a new Droid user, just picked up the thunderbolt and love it! I use my phone for business and I have to use Good Mobile message to push corporate email, contacts and calendar to the phone. this app runs all the time looking for updated emails or calendar changes.


I would like to root the phone to be able to remove a lot of the apps I don't use, and be able to add a kernel that uses less battery. I've never rooted before so this is new. Any suggestions on the type of root and kernel would be appreciated.

There is only one type of "root" and as for the kernel, you use what ever suits you.

Be forewarned...if your employer as root detection enabled, Good will detect the root and lock you out. This happened with my Fascinate, and even after going back to stock, I was never able to get my phone working with Good again (employer turned on detection after I had it working for about a month). Ended up selling the Fascinate and getting a T-bolt.

What you're looking for is what type of rom. Rooting is basically turning off the security on your device. Flashing custom roms is what removes the bloatware, tweeks the settings and look of the phone, etc.

Check out BAMF. It's probably the most stable rom out and has a few different versions, one of which should fit your needs.

After root you could keep your phone stock and use the app Root Explorer to remove the apps you dont need or use. If you like the stock look keep it my Bolt was stock for 3 weeks but it was overclocked to 1.8 ghz and all the bloat was gone. enjoy your new bolt
