Hey I'm sorta new to the whole rooting thing. I understand how to root and how to get a recovery kinda. My question is custom ROMs. Everyone talks about them but my question is say I get CM12 its a nightly. Does it update via otas every night or do I have to physically go download the new nightly build? Also could someone explain the whole titanium back up? Or maybe link me a YouTube video. Its a pain to try to sift through the thousands of junk for the one quality video. Thanks all.

They come as otas, by default it checks once per week but you can change that. When they come if you have a compatible recovery (cwm and cyanogen [cyanogen recovery is awful btw]) it will flash it for you, otherwise choose install zip from sd card and it will be in the cmupdater folder.

As for titanium I don't use it so sorry I can't be of help there
