Rooted 2.2 DInc wireless hot spot trouble

I rooted and s-offed my Dinc and did the RUU update. I put wireless tether for root on and it turns on and my computer sees it and everything, but can't connect to the internet over it. I tried Barnacle as well--still no dice. I know you are supposed to have some kind of kernel for it to work properly.

Does anyone know if the stock 2.2 kernel from the RUU can do it? or do i need to put a different one on for wireless tether to work.
