Hi all,
I am a complete newb, lease help. I just rooted my LG Optimus with sfhub automated rooting package successfully(or not?) but still no hotspot: "network is unavailable". Do I have to have rom installed? which one please.

2.2.2
Baseband: LS670MVD_60401001
kernel: 2.6.32.9
lge@android-build #2
Build numbeR: ZVD.41B2924E
Sw version: LS670ZVD

Congrats on the rooting and welcome to the dark side! Please help yourself to some cookies and fruit punch. :)

Rooting doesn't give you any magic bunnies or hot pixies in fishnets, it just lets you access and modify the parent directories of your devices operating system, instead of just what's on your SD card. You'll probably want a custom ROM to get the functionality you seek. For ZVD, I recommend Reborn.

If you haven't already done so, please read the Welcome Guide in the stickies up top. It has links and outlines how to go about things.

Thanks epidenimus. I will try the reborn one but it telemike said this rom was discontinued one? is it still ok? Any other choice?
Thanks

I'm not so sure that discontinued is the right expression for its state, since it is still compatible with 99% of the market and available for download and install. Nick7, the ROM developer, is not providing development updates, that is true. "Frozen" might be more accurate iMHO.

Perhaps what is different about it that it is a rock solid ROM that evolved out of several projects specifically for this device and it works great on ZVD. It's not like a lot of ROMs where something was assembled by one or two guys just to see if it could be done, if you catch my drift. I'm still running it and so are many here. If you are familiar with Ubuntu at all, this is like the 10.04 LTS, tailored to your Opti S. ;)

I do suggest that you give it--and possibly sROM--a spin before moving to either CM7 or ZVH options.

Some of us still use Reborn, or have it as a Nandroid backup so we can revert and update out PRL or profile. Reborn was the last ZVD rom based on the Froyo release from Sprint (modified stock). The kraven's CM7 port is also ZVD based, but obviously not off of the stock rom.

Epidiminus,
I took your advice and had the Reborn installed but the thing I need most was the hotspot did not work at all.
Please advise. Any Rom with solid hotpot for ZVD
Thanks

In Reborn ROM, put theHotspot Widget on the desktop first, touch activate it and wait a couple seconds.
When it turns full green:

Go to Menu --> Settings --> Wireless & networks --> Portable hotspot --> Portable Wi-FI hotspot settings --> Configure Wi-FI hotspot.

From here you can set your SSID, encryption, and password.

Thanks Epidenimus, You should know your quick responses meant a lots to me. The hot spot widget was installed already together with the Reborn Rom and when I clicked it in App management, it is locked so I could not force close or delete it. When I went to Appmart, to download, it mentioned that that the app already installed so I could not download it anymore
Please let me know

If hotspot is your dire need, you could also try a non-root-needing tether like 1ClickTether from AndrMarket. I was downloading rooted and unrooted ones and that was the one I got to work on an Opt V...I didn't notice, or know to notice, build number or any of that stuff. I am SOOO new.

It sounds like you didn't add the hotspot widget to your home seen. You add it like you do any widget (push on the home screen, click widget, click hotspot) and then when you want to enable it you click it.
I think it enables the portable hot spot in your system settings for you so you shouldn't have to enable it yourself cuz the app does it for you.
You can configure settings and stuff when it's active it'll show up in your notification bar so you click that to change settings.
This is all you should need to do. I hope it works for you.

sent from my Reborn optimus s using taptalk
