Been rooted for about a year, finally want to try a ROM (yeah, I know, I know)

Backed up, wiped a couple of memories, installed CM7 and now my battery doesn't last... I mean, I can watch the battery life countdown like a NASA space shuttle launch >.<

Is there a step I am missing when it comes to adding ROMs?

Thanks.

Jumping ROMS can lead to wildly inaccurate battery meters. Give it a few days to settle in.

Or, you may try going to settings, apps, running apps, and see if there is something obvious hogging up a bunch of battery life.

I use CM 7 and I have really good batt life.

Incidentally which version did you load?

Interesting point -- maybe it was a faulty meter... I presumed it was an accurate representation of the battery.

I think I used 7.0.3 -- not 100% sure but I recall it 'stable release' and had the most downloads.

use battery calibration, it is a free app in the market to help get things stable. My understanding is that whenever you flash ROMs this is a needed step.

You can also try this. Charge the battery to full with the power off. When you power on, boot into recovery, go to advanved, and wipe battery stats. Reboot and use as normal. This will wipe any old battery info from your device.
