So now that the Droid has been rooted what are your expectations?
I hope we can run Sense UI and the real Browser that the Milestone has.:D

so now that you droid users have root can someoone post up a full rom dump for us :)

Think I'm gonna root mine as soon as I get home but I don't wanna be the test dummy. Can someone post their findings? And if I do decide to root it, will I lose any current info on my Droid? Thanks in advance.

I'm forbidden to destroy anymore company property :)
But IF I messed with it, ;) -

I'd say give it a few days and soon one that sticks will be out. Then we try to get HTC's browser and flash player to run on the different res. screen...and HTC people app with integration...and...and lol.

On behalf of the Open Source community, Open Handset Alliance, and CDMA users worldwide - I proudly wave my fat stubby middle finger at HTC, Moto, Sprint, Cell South, Google, Verizon and anyone else that wants to throttle Android's open-ness.

On another note, and not to hijack - this is a prime example of WHY Vzw vs. Sprint, Android vs. Apple, Hero vs. Droid, etc. is damn stupid. Without some serious Linux guru's working together, this couldn't have been built. Now if we all can work together soon we will have 2.x AND HTC sense on all the new CDMA devices.

Yeah, I'm a geek lol.

OK, so I went to that page that briefly explained the 'root' thing... so w/ it, can you move all your apps onto the sd card?? Or am I reading that wrong? Anyone have another page going into further details regarding rooting or have any explanations?

so just a question about the rooting will we be able to put a sense ui rom from say..the eris or another phone on the Moto Droid??

yeah, that's still greek to me. :o

To root your Droid is to give yourself Admin access to the phone. To make it even easier it is similar to being given moderate to basic access to a computer. Then one day being given access to the whole computer. The link above gives you ideas what people use root for, but more so root allows you full access to the phones operating system. Which in turn gives you more control over what you can and cannot do. A good example is the visual voicemail icon, with root you can actually remove it if you desire where without root you cannot.

Coming from BB where I was fairly skilled at updating it, but not so skilled with droid so plz forgive what might be a already asked or answered question somewhere else. I read the benefits of doing the root update, and the possibilities of the carriers locking it down with future OS upgrades. I have already done the OTA 2.1 upgrade did that upgrade kill the root option, and if not has the root option been verified as a stable way to go without any issues that is causing the Moto Droid problems? Thanks for any help.

You did the OTA 2.0.1 update. Root works with that update, you are good.
