Hey guys,

I rooted my thunderbolt but am still kind of a noob. I know HTC came out with an update to fix gps, battery, ect. I was wondering if there was anyway to manually update the thunderbolt if its rooted? Please let me know. I would like to get this update so I can fix my gps.

Are you running a custom ROM, or the stock OS? Some of the custom ROMs, like DasBAMF 1.6.3 are already based on the update, just require a flash of the new radio (if desired).

Then, how would we apply this update? I am a total n00b as well. :)

if you download the ruu that potatolover posted, you need to place the file on the root of your sd card, rename pg05img.zip, reboot the phone to the bootloader (power off, power back on with volume down and power button held together), and follow on screen instructions to install.

fyi this will wipe your data.

I'm running BAMF 1.6.3 and have read that I may need to flash a new radio, question is, how? I have tried looking around here and the XDA site and can't really find how to flash a radio. I've tried a few different times and the software number never seems to change 1.13.605.7 Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

Same question here.....

The new radio is about 25mb. Once you flash it your baseband number will change. Their is a thread titled radio something from back in late April. Do a search for it in this rom forum. Just search "radio" and look for a thread made by a mod and the last post was about 4-24-2011.

So is this new radio flash a VZ radio update or a hacked/root radio optional update? For whatever reasons, I recently unrooted my Bolt, ran the OTA update, then rooted again and applied the 1.6.3 BAMF ROM... yet, my baseband still says 1.16.00.0223r. Any ideas on what I'll need to do next to get these damn updates on my phone ha?

I'm still very confused here. Partially because I'm new to Android. That said... I'm just curious as to why my baseband is still reading 1.16.00.0223r when I unrooted, did the ota udpate, rooted again, and added the 1.6.3 BAMF Rom? Should it read right now with the new baseband?

All I really want are the official vz updates/bug fixes on my phone right now... which I thought it would have since I did the ota update succesfully. After I was done with that i ran the autoroot file and went back to bamf.

I'm new to Android too, that's no excuse! lol

Your baseband is still stock because you wiped everything when you went through the whole rooting process after you installed the ota. When you flashed the BAMF rom it didn't include the radio, only the new build number. Now all you need to do is flash the new radio I linked above and you will be updated.

That's cool. The 2nd part of my question is basically this, is that new radio you're telling me to flash part of the VZ update or is that the BAMF crew's hacked version or whathaveyou? I kinda want only official ota's and radio updates on my phone for now.
Thanks buddy

I am in the same boat as above. I rooted mine mainly for tethering purposes so would like to keep the OS in stock form just rooted

It's official as you can get for a root user. When the developers tell me that nothing had changed from the leak that was released over a month ago, from the official ota I tend to believe them. Especially since people were hoping there would be changes to the radio considering many were having problems with random reboots and such.

This is old news now since Gingerbread is here though. Only a matter of time before BAMF gets it :)

You're missing out if you just rooted to tether. You can keep the look and feel of stock sense with das BAMF, only that it's much more efficient. Especially now that Gingerbread has arrived, why stay stock?

any how-to's on updating the radio only then... think I'll just go ahead and do it. can i do the following (found on another site):

1. Power down your phone.
2. Press and hold the down volume button and power back on phone.
3. Continue to hold the down volume button until you see the Hboot screen.
4. In the Hboot screen, you will see the phone start to examine your new file.
5. When prompted push the volume up button to start the update.
6. When the update is complete you will be prompted to push the power button to reboot the phone. Reboot by pushing the power button.
7. Once the phone reboots, you need to delete the PG05IMG.zip file from your SD card, or move it out of the root directory. Failure to do this will cause problems installing Roms and Kernels later.

and doing this to a stock/ rooted thunderbolt only upgrades the radio? Does not wipe any data?
