They are nightly updates but everything works for me.

Yes.
Basically, the APK tells your phone it is a Pixel and Google Assistant works pretty well.
Not perfect, but well enough to impress your friends.

If you flash the CM nightlies, add those APK zips to flash at the same time or Assistant will not work.

Android pay doesn't work if the phone is rooted or bootloader is unlocked.

There are work-arounds for that, which hides the fact that the phone is rooted.

Bummer. I thought I might be ok if I removed root and re-locked the boot loader.

Didn't work on Fi network. Had to restore to stock. Came to know that one should install Super gapps or Aroma gapps (Fi option) package for Fi network to connect
