Hey all, My wife owns the Evo Shift 4G and we would like to root it (along with my 3d But still waiting on that one.) Anyhow.. We have never rooted our past phones and would like to now. But not sure if it can be done or if anyone has a great guide to do it. My wife likes her phone set up but wants to eliminate the bloat and unwanted stuff and change some of the looks and launchers. Her Shift currently has Gingerbread 2.3.3 with Sense 2.1

If any one has info or can point a beginner in the right direction so I dont kill her phone or for all I know that version of GB may not be rootable yet....

I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you.

As of right now there is no way to root the Shift of it's running Gingerbread. Your going to have to wait until the devs find a new root exploit. There's a few different threads in the Rooting and Hacks forum about the same thing. There's really no telling how long it will be until the Shift is rooted, i frequent several different forums and there's doesn't seem to be a lot of work being done.

A lot of the good devs are focused on finding root for the 3D

Thank you very much for your reply.

I did some snooping around and read some of the same.

Really dont even have a clue on how to root any of these phones. My last Phone was a HTC Hero. Started off pretty well by the time I traded it in for my 3d it was horrible. My wife LOVES her Shift and I feel the same about my 3D. But we would like to do more with them. Rooting seems like the next step.

You say you frequent several sites/forums. Any good ones you could recommend besides here? Id like to learn alot more. Im very PC smart. Just havent playing with Android stuff yet.

Thanks!!

What is sense and how do I find the version on my phone? Thanx

Ok so I'm assuming that this is something that I have to install? And prolly have to have my phone rooted to do so right?

Sense is whats on your phone. And what you look at when you turn it on to run a custom rom you have to be rooted.
