hello.. i traded my iphone 4... for my new captivate an love this phone.. now i see people talking about rooted phone. can mine be rooted. if so should i. is there a link to show me how to root my phone. plz help if you can

The reason to root the phone is to allow you to modify the phone's behaviour beyond the level of customization given by existing phone settings or options. My advice is to use it for a while, and decide whether or not you even need to change anything.

In terms of 'plz help if you can', I'd suggest that you do some research before beginning the rooting process. This is going to entail searching the forums and reading. The captivate is quite robust, but it is possible to get the phone to a point where it's bricked, and not fixable (usually happens if the wrong ROM is flashed to the phone).
