rooting and roaming? why only roaming?

alright, I rooted my wifes hero a few weeks ago and installed beezy420's 2.1 lite option 4 and really liked it, everything seemed to work, phone was snappy, no extra crap thrown in. only thing is it always said digital roaming, and if I went into network settings and chose "sprint only" then it would say no service.

oh well, not a big deal so I left it on there. went to pheonix the other day, and no 3G, I got it on my phone(insinct, EVO in a few days..) but not on the hero. I ran quite a few speedtests to make sure it wasnt just a problem with the icon up top. only got 200k up/down at best. upload would always spike for an instant in the beginning though to almost 1M.

anyways I got home and installed one of the damage roms, only made it overnight with that one. song at boot plays way too long, plus this morning she couldnt turn her alarm off and I ended up having to pull the battery cuz I couldnt figure it out. now I got a fresh toast on there, and also flashed the latest radio from the sprint update. so far so good with fresh toast, but both of these also only have service when I allow roaming, sprint only gives me no service...

is there a legitimate reason for this? I get 3G NOWHERE around here so I cant test that part right now.

anyone know of other ROMS like the 2.1 lite? I dont need all this crap people throw in their roms like the choice of 5 launchers, and choice of 3 keyboards, fancy carousal widget things, etc... I just want the sprint crap gone and then the same 2.1 sense experience Id get from sprint. if they could get root on the sprint 2.1, I could do that and remove the apps, but so far noones rooted the update.

do you have any idea why I didnt get 3G the other day in PHX. it would connect with the sprint 1.5 last time, and my phone connected? do you always get 3G in your area with your roms?

Whats your PRI?
go into settings-- about phone-- Software Information.

If it doesn't end in 03 (i.e. 1.70_003) then your phone is linking to another carriers. You can double confirm this with Sprint not showing up on the lockscreen. In order to fix this, you will need the MSL number, which you can only get by calling Sprint directly, and is unique to her phone. From there you follow this thread:

Also, there is a way to get the MSL without calling Sprint. I just did it while I was searching for the fix for you, and it worked like a champ. I just used it to change my Slot Index from 2 to 1. Heres that link as well:

Holy crap... that PRL is way off. It should be 60664. Try updating that:

Settings--about phone-- system update-- update PRL

a PRL update failed the other day when I tried it and I forgot to try it again later.
I just got my MSL, but if its a PRL problem and not a PRI, that PRI fix I was linked to will do nothing for me, right?

both, try to update the PRL, if that doesn't work, do the PRI fix (you need a 1.5 ROM, download Gumbo1.5c or Fresh 1.1 after doing a nandroid backup)

I did a nandroid backup of the rooted 1.5 before I ever flashed a custom rom, just went back to it, and even that showed me as roaming, I did the PRI fix and tried a PRL update and it could not succeed and says error code 1012. is there a way to manually flash a new PRL? Im gonna go search that myself as well.

what do you mean how about the ability to update PRL, that is what that link shows how to do. Ive used 2.1 lite option 4, damge (fIni$h3R or something like that), sugar free kool aid, iced honeybun lite, and fresh toast. all of them were stuck on roaming, than when I finally got the PRL updated, I showed sprint service but the phone deactivated itself, but I think I have it all going now...

You updated the PRI, not the PRL. The PRL is the Preferred Roaming List. Something got messed up with one of those ROMs. I'm not familiar with fIni$h3R, but I am with the others. Option 4 is based off of the 2nd Sprint Leak and Kool-Aid, Honeybun and Fresh Toast are all based off of the Official (3rd leak/official).

The fIni$h3R one is based off the ruu,damage,and toast kernel.He added a lot of mods.I flashed it for a little bit.
