I have another phone I only use as a tablet type. This is a Droid x and I just rooted it as practice to remove unwanted programs. Worked very easily. But now I would like to try it on my Thunderbolt but this is my primary cell phone so I'm a little afraid to try it. So my question are:

If I root my HTC Thunderbolt, just to remove the bloatware and to do some minor adjustments like increase volume, will I still receive updates? Searching different forums I seem to find that most people who root also do a rom flash, which I'm not really sure I want to do. Would just like to delete the software that I don't want. So, with that said, could someone direct to me information on how this works, what I can and cannot do, etc?

If I still get updates, do I need to root each time I install an update?

Thank you all in advance

Once you root...you will lose the OTA update notifications. There are some reports that some users are still getting notifications and when they go to update, they mess their phone up....NOT BRICK...just have to re-root.

The only way you can get rid of the Bloatware is:

1. Flash to a custom ROM
2. Remove the bloatware yourself....which I would say 99% of us here that are rooted don't bother with when we have amazing ROMS that are already done for us.

I'm not meaning this to sound harsh. But if you simply look in the rooting section of this forum in the stickies you will find. 1 how to root by Cyber and 2 what is safe to remove by Cory. As far as will you still get updates yes you will unless you turn off the option to receive them. In the BAMF forums there are several ROM's to choose from to include Retro 1.0.3 and it's already debloated. If you load a custom ROM you will not get updates. Read up on the rooting process and the many ROM's in all the forums to see which one would best suit your needs. Rootwiki has most of the ROM's posted there but there are others too. I'm signed up here, Team Bamf, The MikMik, XDA Developers, and Rootwiki. Nat3mil has several very good videos on you tube on the various things you will need to know as in rooting, flashing ROM's, flashing radios, and others you will need. Just go to you tube and enter his handle in the search and you'll see everything he has uploaded to help out people. There are several people in all the forums that are more than glad to help you out with any problems you might run into. If you need any help feel free to ask here or send a PM I usually check in here in the mornings. I hope this helps. Good luck!

Thank you so much for the replies and direction on what help to read. I do appreciate it very much.

If I run into problems I will surely take you up on the help.
