Depends really. Personally, I'm quite satisfied with the stock rom/kernel since the main purpose of my fascinate will always be a phone. I'm sure some of the custom roms are amazing and offer amazing features, though.

With that said, I'm currently charging up my phone to install the stock+voodoo kernel I mentioned above. Voodoo has some nice little tweaks and it's practically the same as stock with some tweaks. If I could squeeze a little bit more performance from the phone, then I'll take that opportunity!

On the flip-side if you do want to delve into custom roms, make sure you understand the risks involved. I dont have a warranty so maybe I'm a bit biased.

thanks for the info. I think I might wait to get into the custom roms. I still have a year of warranty on this phone so better not play around on it to much :)

ALSO can everyone list off how they rooted , if possible include links, and any modifications you had to do to make it work . Thanks in advance[/QUOTE]

I rooted using superoneclick version 1.5.5 short fuse. I believe this is where you can find it here [APP]SuperOneClick v1.6.3 (Root, Unroot, Enable Non-Market App, Get UNLOCK code) - xda-developers
I had no problems except super lag and that was fixed by pulling the battery when I restarted my phone as posted in my previous post.

Not sure if someone already answered your question. But you can install Z4root in your main memory.

z4root rooting didn't work for me.

SuperOneClick didn't work with mono on my linux computer and I had no windows computer around.

I rooted "old-school" using psneuter as the exploit. The psneuter used was the one from SuperOneClick. It worked wonderfully to get a temp root.

I then followed roughly those instructions, starting after the rage.bin exploit.

I didn't know where to get su and busybox (well, didn't search much), it's why I used those.

Phone informations:
Model number: SGH-T959D
Firmware version: 2.2
Baseband version: T959TLJL3
Kernel version: 2.6.32.9 / sj0829.kwon@SEP-08 #2
Build number: FROYO.

Hi,
I was wondering if anyone has been able to root the Fascinate with gingerbread yet. I have tried several different methods including super one click root and it still does not work. Just looking for some info. Sorry if this has already been posted elsewhere on the fascinate site but i couldnt find it when i looked.

Ok to revive an old thread for those that are still wonderinign how to root the Telus Fascinate. I used this method from XDA developers website. [Telus Only][How-To] Root your Fascinate Gingerbread 2.3.3 T959TLKG2 - Page 7 - xda-developers
This is an easy way to flash and to root plus it gives you the stock kernel for the phone. Good Luck:)
