Hi does anyone know if we will be able to root the Evo Shift and get the free wifi tethering that we can on the Evo? If so is there instructions somewhere yet on it? Thanks

We only have temp root for now. You can use Z4root to do it but once you reboot it is back to non root.

if your lucky you can brows other android forums and come across the .apk file for VISIONary. its a temp root app that re-roots your phone with every reboot. so your phone is permanently temporarily rooted...hmm that contradicts itself.

hey guys, I'm new to android and this is my first android device. I have heard about rooting but had no idea where to even begin and honestly was very nervous about attempting it. I went on youtube and found a video about rooting 2.2 using z4root. I installed wireless tether and milestone overclock which wasn't compatible with the Shift. The wireless tether actually worked pretty well. After you install z4root there is an option for temporary and permanent root. I only tried temporary and it works great, I am actually afraid to try the permanent option. If anyone wants to put the permanent option to the test please feel free and let us know how it goes. So my first attempt at rooting, A+++++ for myself.

permanent root is not possible right now...we are only able to temp root....there are other threads already with info about this if you search for it

It should not take long for a permanent root, though. The phone has only officially been released since jan 9th. So, don't worry too much.
