I have zero experience in rooting. I know what I want, but I dont know how to go about doing it. I would like to know what I need to do, in the order I need to do it. I appreciate you taking the time out to help me.

List of stuff I would like to have:

Kernal: KiNgxKernel #4 "Kingy Fresh"
Rom: Virtuous 2.7

I assume I need to use Unrevoked to root, but do I need unrevoked forever as well?

Also, I am running OTA froyo update

Thanks for the links.

Do I need to remove the "update.zip" that I used to upgrade to froyo off of my sd card?

No just download unRevoked 3.21 and follow the directions. None of those old directions apply now.

You also may end up needing the drivers for your computer. Install the drivers for your phone, unpack unRevoked. Run it then plug your phone into your computer with usb debugging turned on.

Menu --> Settings --> Applications --> Development --> Check mark usb debugging.

Easy peasy.

unRevoked said done, and on the last reboot it just started up like normal. How do I know if it was successful

Unpack it an run it. It has instructions read and follow them. Basically you need the drivers installed. Debugging turn on on the phone. Start unrevoked, plug in your phone and let it do it's thing. Once it reboots into recovery make a nandroid backup and reboot your device. You're now rooted with clockwork recovery installed.

Apparently it worked as I do have clockwork recovery and just did a full back up. Now on to installing installing a kernel and a rom. Does it matter what order I do it in? You got any tips on installing them?

Yes always rom first then kernel. I would suggest doing a good bit of reading on those aspects before you have to restore from the backup you just made. ;)

Also I would suggest going to the market and getting titanium backup and rom manager. Two very nice tools a rooted user can use.

You, sir, are a gentleman and a scholar. Thanks you very much for the help.

One more question, whats the best way to remove bloatware? Just use Titanium back up to uninstall it? If not that, how do I move it?

Wow thanks for the complement!

Yes Titanium is probably the easiest way to handle it. If you want to move it to a "backup" folder in case you want to restore it then root explorer or through ADB is your best bet.

Nandroid is basically a disk image of your phone. Kind of like using a ghost image or disk image to restore your computer for an HD failure!

I've installed the drivers, ran unrevoked3, plugged in my phone in usb debugging mode and all I get is "waiting for device" What am I missing or not doing correctly??

You need to be booted completely into Android first. Start up unRevoked then plug your phone into the computer.

I'm having the same issue and tried what you said and it does nothing. I'm going to try it on a different computer right now.
