I am finally ready to take the plunge and root my phone. I have spent enough time drooling over the custom ROMs and want to start using them myself. I have the latest OTA updates from Sprint.

I have a quick question about the process.

I read through the sticky at the top of the page [How to] Rooting HTC EVO Froyo 2.2 (Windows). I also did some research into unrEVOked over at their thread [ROOT] unrEVOked 3.21: one-click root for Froyo, no downgrading and the FAQ on their webpage. The thread says that you do not need to downgrade with the latest version of unrEVOked and I was wanting to make sure that was true since the sticky in this forum goes into detail about downgrading to 2.1 and rooting your phone from there.

So do I need to downgrade to 2.1 in order to root my phone? Or can I just use the newest version of unrEVOked to root my phone with the latest OTA updates from Sprint?

I think you're confusing the different root methods

The one in the sticky rolls you back to 2.1 which allows you to use the 2.1 methods to root. (toast, simpleroot)

UR 3.2.1 roots and unlocks nand on 2.2 I.E no rollback

Hope that helps.

Its 2 Different Methods with different Exploits

Its up to you in the end...

LJ's Sticky *Which is the Method I literally just used an Hour ago* teaches you alot about ADB Command which can become useful in the long run

UnRevoked is a click and forget Method

But like Kev said... 2 different methods not to be confused with each other

Honestly its all up to you

Thanks, that does clear it up.

I just wanted to make sure they were seperate methods since liquidjesus had a link to unrevoked at the end of his How To when the unrevoked page was saying it didnt have to be downgraded.

Those are all the rooting methods once in 2.1

He was making it an easy 1 stop shop kinda thing

i couldnt get the rollback to happen with adb, something with my laptop.

i gave up and went unrevoked... couldnt of been easier.

i recommend this way.
