rooting mytouch 3g slide

whats the easiest way to root my phone to overclock it and get stock android 2.2 froyo and to have it run as smooth as possible? Im new to the whole rooting thing, so thanks in advance to any and all responces.

The rooting process for the MTG3S is a little finicky, but it's not bad. I used the process here.

The same forum has a lot of roms listed. I'm using Cyanogen 6.1.1, which I installed using their directions here. I'm really enjoying it. It's a very fast and smooth rom.
