Ok I will start out with yes I am a noob. I have an inspire 4g. I have tried to root my phone so many times. I have the original HTC cable for my phone. I have tried running ace hack as administrator and also tried to open the file up in ubuntu with a permission denied. I have read the effen manual time after time after time after time to try to figure this out with no luck. Windows defender is dissabled, I have no virus protector installed now. Problem is it keeps coming up " can't find phone or usb debugging is not enabled. I know it is and plus its in charge only mode. Also the only driver installed is the one that came with the ace hack kit. I'm running 32 bit Windows Vista Btw. Can anyone help me. I've been trying so much for two weeks with no good end result. Thanks in advance

You probably don't have the drivers for your phone. Download and install HTC Sync from HTC's website, plug in your phone, then uninstall Sync otherwise it has issues with the hack kit. You need the drivers for your phone to show up when in debugging mode.

Just for clarification any micro USB will work on the inspire though I ponder why people insist to only use the USB cable that comes with the phone. According to international committee that standardize all electronical equipment,( same ones that standardize the DVD) all micro USB must be interchangable in other words, a Motorola micro USB charger works on a HTC phone and vice versa. I recieve information from my dad who read it on a online newspaper.

Ok I've had issues with the hack kit as well but I finally rooted it yay ok it didn't work until I made sure fast boot is enabled USB debugging is enabled and charge only make sure battery is at 100% run as administrator. Make sure the cable is on a USB port on the mother board sorry yes that means the back of the computer. Mine didn't work untilled I got it on the board and I to run vista home premium 32 bit.

Yes, and it explains all of these things and more in the effen manual in the kit. If you don't follow ALL the directions, you're going to have problems.

Yes intact I soft bricked it twice untilled the hack kit basically. Brute forced it and you gotta have the access code remember fast boot should be enabled alongwith USB debugging do not wake wifi off data off you do t want any intrusions and by soft bricking I mean it only loaded to the boot loader untilled I Pope's the battery out and let it. Waited 30 seconds but the only reason it did that was the USB cable had a short in it so I had to change cables
