rooting question on roaming network

I live in Alaska and im on a roaming network. If I root and flash the rom do you have to reactivte the phone. you can only activte a phone on a Verizon Home network. I had to mail my phone to the lower 48 just to be able to use, dont really fill like doing that again. This is a great phone and I what to see what it can realy do.
