Hey guys, I am fairly tech savvy but not on the coding/software side.

I have some questions on rooting.

I like the stock feel and function of the bolt I do not wish to change anything really. I would like to root so I can remove the bloat-ware.

is this possible to do without changing anything but the apps?

so after I root and delete the bloat will I be able to receive ota updates like I would normally from vzw?

In the event I need to how do you go about un-rooting?

will there/is there a detailed walk-through on how to root/use a easy root program and how to remove the bolatware?

sorry I know most of these are probable answered in other places. I would just like to make sure I have all the facts and info before I move forward with anything like this.

thanks.

So, stupid question.. seeing all this posts of root, easy, debloat etc. All the same just differnet methods? or leaves phones in a differnet state?

What about flashing it back to orginal if need be?

if you have an q's, pm me

Please share in the forums too ;)

I get PM's all day long from people that think their questions are too embarrassing to post in the forums. What people don't realize is that there are thousands of others who have the same question. So, after I slap their snout with the "no question is a stupid question" stick, I also let them know that they are benefiting the entire community by having an open dialogue in the forums. I didn't mean to make an example out of your post, I just saw an opportunity to remind everyone how important their contributions are, whether in the form of questions, answers, or the process of troubleshooting.

As far as app management one you're rooted, it's basically as follows:
  1. Download Root Explorer from the Market.
  2. Open it.
  3. Navigate to /system/app.
  4. Look in the upper right corner of root explorer.
    • If it says "mount r/o" then proceed to next step.
    • If it says "mount r/w" then push it to toggle.
    • R = Read. W = Write. O = Only. Read = no file manipulation for that folder. Write = You get to do things to files in that folder, like delete (don't do this please), Rename, or Move.
  5. Check out the menu options in root explorer. They are pretty self explanatory.
  6. Read the apps that are safe to remove once rooted thread.
  7. Watch the cool apps to install once rooted video in the thread I started.
