I have had the Droid X for about 2 months now, so I'm still new to the Android world. I LOVE my phone, and will never go back to the Blackberry world! Android is the way to go!

Anyway, I have seen and heard so many things about rooting the Android phones, but I have no clue on what rooting is and what the benefits/disadvantages are.

Also, I have been going crazy looking for free themes to install my phone. In doing a google search for free themes for the Droid X, I found a theme called "Pink Life", and sent the link to myself to download it, but from all the other links that I have found with this same theme, I have been unable to install it. I continue to get error messages saying that what I'm trying to download is not for my phone's content. What does this mean? Does this have something to do with my phone not being "rooted"?

Can someone please explain to me what rooting is all about, and where and how can I begin to customize my phone with free themes and such?

Any and all help is appreciated! Thank you! :)

Rooting means giving you elevated priveledges that Verizon locks out. Basically, it's as if your "user" account was upgraded to "administrator"

While it gives you greater control over your phone, it also can mean greater issues if you don't know what you're doing.

Rooting shouldn't be taken lightly.. If you're having no issues and just want themes, download ADW.Launcher and use their themes.
