Rooting trouble, need help ASAP

I'm just having trouble following the directions and getting everything to work for me. It's late at night now, and I want to get this done, or back to normal so I can get to bed. I just need someone to talk me through it, if anyone is awake and can help right now?

And I run Superuser.apk and it popped up what program to use for it, I just selected Heimdall, hope that wasn't an issue? Now when I type "device detect" in the cmd it just gives me the "is not a recognized command" etc etc. Then as I read through the other pages there, people said they did something and such and it worked, but then they were typing in different commands and downloading all sorts of stuff... I'm just lost right now. And it's really frustrating me because I've always been very competent on the computers... It's been 2 hours now, I just want to go to bed and have a functioning phone.

From your post it is very hard to determine what you have done and where you are in the process. So how about you tell us step by step what you did and where you are stuck?
