Hi,

I am seriously thinking of retiring my carrying around two phones. I use a BB and a jail broken iphone 4. Been reading about, have played with in store and am very impressed by the maxx hd.I do use a nexus 7, and also have a samsung galaxy tab2 7, so I am familiar with jelly bean and ics.

Each of the 3 phones has functionality that the others do not. For instance the profiles option on the bb is the reason that I keep it and us it as my phone, text and email phone. Rooting seems more difficult than jailbreaking. Is rooting difficult and is there a chance of 'bricking' the phone?

Hi. Welcome to AC! I came from several BB's and thought they were the greatest..... UNTIL I got my android phone. Then the few times I had to go back to my BB for a trip to Europe were just PAINFUL. I didn't realize just how much stuff the phone couldn't do in comparison. Now I have this phone which has a GSM antenna so I can use it in Europe (although at the cost of the painfully expensive Verizon international data plans).

To answer your questions... I also liked the profiles on the BB but you can have something similar on the RM HD with smart actions. And the better part is that you can have it change the "profile" automatically based on several factors such as location, time of day, etc. I loved the battery life on my BB and wasn't so impressed with it on my Galaxy Nexus, but this phone with its huge battery is back up to BB standards.

I haven't rooted this phone yet, but I did with my last 2 and it was very easy. I don't have any jailbreaking experience for comparison. There were even some 1 step root methods that people had come up with. I haven't seen an easy Mac rooting methods for this phone yet, although I haven't had the huge urge that I had with my last 2 phones for some reason. I installed the JB leak (without rooting) and am happy. From what the smart people say (not me), there you can't really hard brick the phone, but a soft brick (which you can get back from) is possible.

Hope that helps some.
