I am going to take this with a train load full of salt, and personally, I think it's bogus considering the source...

iPhone coming to Sprint. Best Buy Employee CONFIRMS | The Tech Update

How would this make sense? Sprint is trying to get into the green, that's pretty obvious, and while some people would say that would screw up the launch of the Evo (which I guess is the idea as far as Apple goes), in the end, Sprint would benefit from it. Why? Android fans will still get the Evo, and disgruntled iPhone fans, or people that never got the iPhone because they don't like AT&T would rejoice and jump on it instantly, especially with Sprints rates, IF they were to stay intact.

So lets say what's written in there is true,....what would you do?

I am not one to follow the masses, I stick with the underdog, although lately, the only underdog is Palm, but anyhow, I like the openess of Android and don't like how Apple does business, plus Flash is a nice thing to have....

I wouldn't mind it that much unless the influx of iPhone users would cripple the network like it did on AT&T. It would make a tough choice for my wife though. She's not all that technology savvy, and likes her current iPhone.

True. I was thinking of giving my Hero to my mom if I get the Evo. I saw her eying it today... But I don't think she will know how to use it.

Personally I would still go the Evo route but I know a lot of less techie people who would be better off with the iPhone just because it seems more polished and complete.

Funny how the title to that link says "Best Buy employee confirms"....that's kinda like saying your 4 year old son knows for sure that you just bought the winning lottery ticket. ;)

I always love unsubstanciated rumors

Hey Guys -

After speaking with my friends, neighbors, law professor that spoke with his daughter's, boyfriends mother, I have confirmed through an unnamed Best Buy rep that an unnamed store in PA is going to have a display for a Sprint iPhone.

Totally legit. :)

LOL...but...all joking aside, who thinks Sprint would actually do it?

I would still go Evo but I would consider adding a line and getting an iPhone also just to have it. I need to replace my ipod soon as it is starting to have a few too many bugs. I would also worry about the negative effect adding the iPhone would have on the sprint network.

You post something funny and now I have to put all joking aside.

Ok... I have set my funny pants aside and have donned the conservative Docker's....

I don't think that there is any way that Apple puts the iPhone on Sprint. In fact, I don't even think it is logical to put it on Verizon at this time.

Bottom line, I don't think that it is Sprint's choice.

IF (A big IF) the iPhone would come I would not worry too much about it cutting into EVO sales. The EVO seems to target a little different market (tech savvy) buyers who want freedom to do what they chose with their phone. I wouldn't take a free iPhone just for this reason. I dont need big brother Steve telling me what to do with my device.

Im sure it would bring a lot of customer to sprint though. Hopefully their network can hold up...

I wonder if there will be a 'premium' data charge for the iPhone if it does come. ;)

Yeah, I have kept Uncle Steve out of my life so far, and I plan on continuing to do so.

And pogetpetey, I am sorry, you can jump back in your funny pants now! :D

Apple needs to expand past AT&T to stay ahead of the game, but I would think that would be Big Red, not Sprint. Personally I'd like to see it on Sprint because it would be good for Sprint. I'd still get the Evo, but my partner would like the iphone.

If it is going to happen I expect it will be announced at the Apple WWDC June 7 - 11. i will say the timing is likely to be interesting. If they are going to announce they should within 30 days of the Evo launch so people who want can still return their device.

I can guarantee if they come to Sprint my wife would drop the Evo she is getting in a heartbeat.

heh yeah, because a Best Buy employee is such a credible source, and is so connected with the higher-ups at Apple

I can see it already, everyone is happy with their Evo, then Monday morning rolls around and Uncle Steve says the unthinkable...."We will be launching the iPhone 4g/HD on AT&T on ......". He disappears from the stage, then comes back... "oh, one more thing, we will launch on Sprint on.... fill in date....".

Pandemonium!

I just did a Google News search for April - June 2009. Very funny how these same conversations were happening last year at this same time. :)

Who knows, it may happen. I am still in the not going to happen camp.

This is precisely the typeof announcement Apple would need to make to take the thunder away from HTC right now. Anything short of this or the announcement that LGE is going live and the iPhone 4G is LTE compatible leaves the momentum clearly in Android's favor.

And I would be getting the Evo and trying it out for 30 days in June and if it didn't totally rock my socks I sure would be tempted to go with the iPhone. Regardless, my wife would drop her BB for one in a heartbeat!

Sprint would love it.
Sprint subscribers would love it.
A good many AT&T subscribers would love it.
Gadget freaks (most of us lol) would love it.
The only question is would Apple do it?

For sprint only, no. Build a cdma iPhone for Sprint/VzW and small regional cdma carriers? Maybe.

Edit -
It can't be true. Ozcar hasn't said it was. :)
