Running with Music

Excuse the newbie question...Is there an app or setting that will allow a running status readout WITHOUT stopping music from playing. I've tried samsung and endomodo so far. This seems like a pretty basic piece of functionality.

Any notification type will always stop (or rather mute/lower volume) on playing media. It's how the OS is set up. Any read-out that's not set as a notification but as media will pause whatever media is currently playing (again, how the OS is set up).
