S Pen/Image Clip

Probably a really stupid question, but how do I take an image clip and add it to a photo in my gallery?

Example: I open my gallery and chrome in multi window. I open the photo I want in my gallery. There's part of an image I find on the internet that I want to clip and drag to my photo, but I get a message that says "file unsupported."

Is there a way to do this or do I need to download a photo editing app?

You could clip it and then tap on the share button and scroll to the bottom and tap upload to photos. It won't be in your gallery, but you'll still have it saved.

Thanks, but that doesn't really solve my problem. It just let's me save a clipped image to my photos.

I want to add the clipped image to an existing photo.

Not sure if this will do what you want. In any case, it's a round about way as I don't think you can just drag things into a photo in the native gallery. Anyways, try this...

Save the photo or clip from the internet so it's in your gallery... edit the photo as you see fit. Go to gallery and open the photo you want to place the clip into and choose to edit it (three dots at the top). Once in editing mode, click on "Decoration" from the choices at the bottom of the screen and then choose "Image". Browse to the photo you clipped from the internet and select it. The clipped photo will show up in a box where you can resize and place where you want on the photo you're editing. After you're done, save the edited photo. It'll be saved in the Studio folder in Gallery.

For me that wouldn't work because my gallery is empty. I choose to remove photos on the device and only leave them in Google Photos. Should work in theory though.

The "solution" was not for you. It's for the OP. If you read the OP, you'll see he does have photos in his gallery. And MANY people actually save photos locally. Personally, I never save a thing to the cloud.

I've been fortunate to never have experienced a SD card failure in any of my phones, cameras, or recorders, over the years. And besides, everything important is backed up on my PC... and the really important stuff, have redundant backups. If my phone/SD card died this second, it wouldn't matter one bit as far as my data goes. Then again, there are a ton of posts all over the forums where people have lost cloud data... music, photos, contacts, everything. I always feel bad when that happens as a lot of times it's important event's like vacation photos, even wedding photos... irreplaceable stuff. I feel worse because they think the cloud is safe and never bother to back stuff up locally. Big mistake, and a hard lesson to learn!

Oh my stuff is all backed up on my PC too. It's just not on my phone locally. To me it's just too much redundancy.

Well, the redundancy part is mostly due to having the same data (music, photos, etc) on my laptops and desktop. Some of my more important stuff is found on DVDs and external hard drives too... like my daughter's baby pictures and videos as she was growing up... can't afford to lose none of that... well, I'd surely hate to anyways!

There is a way as long as you haven't upgraded to Marshmallow. Unfortunately the upgrade removed the "Image Clip" and ruined the best part about the phone for me as I did a lot of little cut/paste photos using the S Pen and Image Clip.

On the photo you want to crop using the Air Command/Image Clip menu draw a circle or shape around what you are trying to clip out. Then once it has been selected either hit the home button or the back button and you should see a message that says "Copied to Clipboard". Then go into gallery and go to the photo you want to edit. Hit the vertical ellipsis and select "Edit". Once in edit mode hit the vertical ellipsis one more time and you should see option for "Clipboard". Select it and then you should see the image you clipped earlier in the Clipboard and just select it. Then you can resize it or rotate it on the image you are editing. Select "Done" and then "Save" and you have your photoshopped/clipped/cropped image.

FYI - It actually is available in Marshmallow too. Happy that I found it but it works slightly different and by-passes the Clipboard.

Go to new Air Command menu and select "Smart Select" option. Then cut out part of image using the Lasso or Rectangle etc. Then select "Save to Gallery" and now it will be saved in the Gallery. Then go to the image you want to edit in the Gallery and like before select the vertical ellipsis and "Edit". Once in edit mode select "Decoration" at the bottom and then "Image" from the sub menu. Now you can see and select your clipped image in the "Screenshots" folder and viola it's now pasted on your primary image to resize, rotate etc.
