I have enjoyed the ease of taking photos by just touching the small buttons (call them tear drops or trees?) under the screen. While the photos look great and fill my phone screen, I was dismayed to discover my developed photos have a white border on the top and bottom for landscape, and left and right for portrait modes. Only the "close up" or "selfie" mode filled the photo. So how do I get around this? Only use the selfie mode and zoom out before shooting the photo?

I ain't no photomotography expert, but I'd say your aspect ratio is wrong for your photo paper.

Select the normal camera (two trees) and look at the top of the screen. You're looking for a box with a number, a colon and another number ( 4:3, 16:9 or 1:1) or the word "full".

Ensure this matches the size of the paper you want to print on.

Use 4:3 for taking photos if it's important to you to print them out as well. 4:3 will also be more detailed -- 16:9 may seem like you're getting more photo since it fills the screen, but it's actually fewer megapixels.
