Android Central Question

Added a Gmail acct. Now login screen asks for password, but the one I thought I created doesn't work. Tried various combinations thinking I had a typo in the original. After x number of trys, get a message saying to wait xx minutes and try again. Cannot even turn phone off. No other controls work either. Trying to avoid factory reset. Pics not backed up.

Welcome to Android Central.

If you're unable to remember your password and log in your only option would be to factory reset with the physical buttons which would require you to log in with the same information you can't remember. It prevents people from stealing phones and trying to bypass the device security and/or activate the device. Your best bet is to figure out the password.

I'll leave a Link to register so you can communicate here, As a guest account you can only post questions but can't reply.

Might I suggest, if you can rectify the login situation, you set up a backup strategy for your pictures? Imagine if you had LOST your phone - you'd have no possibility of recovering those pictures. Or if your phone flat-out died.

I'm able to have off-site (not in my home) storage of my photos from my phone AND a full backup of my MacBook Pro for under $100 a year. My phone photos require going through my Synology NAS, but there may be a solution for direct sync.

Leave the phone turned on, and plugged in and charging for at least 2 hours, and Google will automatically back up your photos and everything else to your Google account. Then you're going to have to factory reset through the recovery menu and sign back in to your Google account, which has a different password than the lockscreen (hopefully), and set up a new lockscreen pin number. If you don't remember your Google account password, and you gave a second email or phone number as a recovery option, you can use that to recover your password.

If you don't remember anything at all, you have what is commonly referred to as a brick ;)
