Hello,

This may be a little strange, but has anybody seen or know what the effective screen size is of the s10 plus? I mean the usable area after the notification area is deducted. I'm buying a phone for my mother, who only cares about the size of the screen between the s10plus, iPhone xs max, and note 9. I've looked it up, but measurement seem to include the notch area on the iPhone, hole punch area on the s10plus, notification shade etc.

In other words, I'm trying to determine if she opens up her kindle app or a website on all 3 phones, which would be able to fit the most text on screen, if the words are the same size?

Thank you, I've been unable to find this out just by searching.

Doesn't matter as long as the app opens up full screen. At least on Samsung devices you can choose to do that with all other elements hidden until you swipe up/down. Except for the camera cutouts.

In my opinion the differences will be so minute that the OS is more important. It'll also depend on how she sets up the phone, whether bold text and/or zoom are enabled, font (on Android), etc. It'll break down to no more than a line or two of text which really isn't worth picking a phone for. At least that's how I look at it.

Good luck on your search!

If you treat the hole as the flush point, the viewable surface area is 10% less for the 10+ and about 17% on the 10. Feel free to check my geometry. Really, please check since could be wrong.

The screen of the s10 plus is the same size as the note 9. Its bigger than the xs max. I own the xs max too and going to be selling it and the s10 plus is bigger and more usable.

Because of the different aspect ratio the S10 plus screen is slightly smaller that the note 9 despite it both being 6.4 inches but the difference is very minimal

The difference is minuscule.

The XS Max is 6.5 inches though, so anything lost by the notch would still leave the XS Max equal to or bigger than either of the Samsung's.

The XS Max is smaller than the Note 9 or S10 plus. I own both. They count all that wasted space in the Notch area too on the iPhone. Don't always believe the numbers. Apple has a tendency to push the truth a lot.

S10+ screen is larger than any iPhone screen. As the photo shows in the previous post, the S10+ has more screen real estate. iPhones notch is huge.

No, it is not. The screen is bigger to begin with on the iPhone, and on the Samsung the status bar is larger, which cancels out any advantage of not having a notch. Unless you're watching videos, the accessible area on the iPhone is the same or larger than the S10+, especially if you're using the always there software buttons. (My household has both as well)

Seems you are the only one that thinks that. The picture is worth 1000 words and I've owned both. It is larger and it is a fact. Look at the picture. If you don't see it, get your eyes checked.

We are talking screen real estate period. I dont give a flying beep about the buttons.

I am seeing it and I disagree. I've used both. The iPhone is bigger. Numbers don't lie.

According to gsmarena the XS max is 102.9 square cm and S10 plus 103.8 without taking cutout or notch into consideration

Yep, I recall seeing that a while back. I knew those measurements were correct and the Note 9 was also larger. Got to love them facts.

Yes correct the note 9 is ever so slightly larger and I'm guessing it's partly because if the aspect ratio
