S10e individual app sound not working

I have successfully changed the default notification sound but anytime a new text comes in instead of the messaging sound it is the default sound.

Are you using Samsung message app?

Yes, the regular messages app. And I've tried it with a file I downloaded and with one of the system sounds, same result.

So if you open the message app then open that contact you will see 3 dots upper right corner tap that and choose custom notifications sound

Sorry if I was unclear, I want all texts to have a different notification sound than the default system notification sound.

No worries you have to do this individually each person

I figured it out! I had to update the sound for new messages AND general notifications. Thanks!
