I placed the S7 order on line w/Verizon this morning while chatting with VZ Rep. The VZ Rep said I cannot do anything to initiate the process to obtain the S2 watch until I receive the S7. Is that correct?

Yes you need WiFi Mac address and imei codes off your phone

Correct, you need to have the phone in your hand as you need the wifi mac address.
