S2 with iPhone

I know Samsung mentioned they would be rolling out the ability to use the S2 w/iOS. I haven't seen anything else since CES. Anyone see any updates since? Loving my Note 5, but have a 6+ as a backup and wouldn't mind playing around with the combo.

I'm currently using the iPhone 6+ with the S2 3G via Bluetooth. Notifications have a delay versus using it paired with my Edge+. I responded to a text using the watch but unsure if it came through with my iPhone number or the watch number. It is lacking from my previous experience with the regular S2 paired to my 6 Edge+. I'm tempted to use my Edge+ as my main so I can use all of the features but I am also toying with the ideal of getting the Apple watch (which I dislike the design) and using the S2 3G for certain occasions.

How did you set everything up? Is the gear app in the App Store?

I can confirm:
iPhone 6 with iOS 9.2.1 paired with Samsung Gear S2 Classic (SW version - R732XXU2AOJ3).

Sms, calendar, WhatsApp, calls all work on the watch.
So far I can't see if the health tracking or other apps work.

Update: Notifications work great. Actions like accepting meetings, auto-respond with SMS to calls are not available (yet!?).

You do not have to set up anything. Once you pair it via bluetooth, it only allows certain notifications. I would assume that once the app is available that it will allow more functions and notifications.

Edit - I installed the App on my phone and it appears to work BUT my phone does NOT connect to the watch using the app. Normal bluetooth connection works. The app can't find the phone though.

You need to update to the latest Samsung Gear OS before you can connect to the iOS app. The only way to do this right now is to first pair to an Android phone and do the upgrade there and then reset and re-pair with an iPhone. It works great after that but you will only be able to install the free apps from Samsung and the free watch faces.

I update my S2 3G version on AT&T from a friends android have R730AUCU1AOL3 software version on watch; I have the gear app installed on my iPhone 6s Plus and app will not find S2 at all and I have hard reset and light reset.
When I did update it through the galaxy it wiped most apps except for 5-6 after reboot and connect to iPhone; I reboot and pair back to Android and have three pages of apps. So I just disabled BT and reconnect to iPhone with BT. Kept all apps but now no contacts as I had before, no notifications from text just calls and can answer calls on watch.
Weird that if I reboot watch I get a different setup of apps, with weather missing etc.

Do you get notification and vibration on Gear S2 when emails, text messages and application notifications like CNN?

I can see pop up on the watch for only phone calls.

I know this is an older post but the phone and watch and are now compatible. I just made the switch to the iphone7 plus. Only can't respond to notifications and text on the watch. Samsung is aware of this issue. Everything else works though.
