S20 will NOT have upgraded fingerprint scanner

A bit of a deal breaker from me, too. The unlock experience has to be reliable and thoughtless. I'm not confident it will be on the s20.

I just hope they actually get the fps right on the next generation. The current one is garbage and no placement or software updates will fix that. I keep hoping they go back to the old school sensors. The idea was cool at first, but the implementation was just bad.

Welcome to Android Central!

I mentioned this in the other FPS thread that Jon Rettinger mentioned the S20 to be much better than the S10. Even to the point of saying it works as well as the capacitive sensors before in display. I don't trust what all YouTubers say, but he's usually pretty honest in his reviews.

Got a link to this? Mainly interested in reviewers with honest opinions. I'd like to check out his stuff.

Here's the video:

I've been following his videos for over 10 years. I don't necessarily always agree with his opinions, but they're usually honest and well thought out. He also founded technobuffalo which hasn't been good for a long time, but it started out good when he was running it.

I haven't been keeping up with S10 forums... kept my Note 8 without an ounce of regret :P... but is the general concensus on the S10 forums is that the in glass FPS sucks??

If so, that would make me think twice on the S20... or at the very least wait on posts... but when the S10s came out, people were saying how good it was and that's the last I kept up with it.

Well that would just plain such if there were no improvements to that POS fingerprint scanner.

instant dealbreaker. Would have considered the upgrade on that alone as I've tried every trick and the fps on the s10 is still just too damn slow and unreliable.
on to the s30...

With so much trouble with the on screen finger print sensor.
And the hell it gives me trying to unlock my phone driving down the road on my Note10+.
And no telling how much farther Samsung is wanting to push Bixby.
There are 2 fast things to make me now want a new Samsung phone.

Don't come on here and bust my chops cause I'm having trouble with the on screen FPS.
I've used phones since the iphone 3.
I set my own phones up. Not to mention my own computer.

I just don't like on screen screen FPS.

It was much easier with one hand operation on the back.
My wife don't want to leave her note 9. because she likes the FPS on the back.

And just how many people has access to 5G.
I sure don't.
When my wife goes to work in Houston she might have access to 5 G.
But at what price.
She dontbplay games.
She likes the camera she has.

So to keep up.
At what price is the upgrade to G20 worth.

Not much to me.
Where I live, even on Verizon network.
I have to have wifi calling

Ahhhh yes, I remember the S10 fingerprint scanner discussions. A fingerprint scanner needs to work, and it shouldn't rely on perfect finger placement. That's pretty much it. It was half-baked, and they need to get it right this time. I'm not willing to struggle with a fingerprint scanner this go round. Samsung pours a lot of thought into the camera, but the camera is not as big of a concern for me.

Keep it 100% real. I detect no lies in what you say! Folks whined about the fingerprint sensor on the back. and mine worked perfectly, and I had no issues with finger placement....but tech guys swore up and down it was so hard.

I don't know about the rest of you but the idea of someone trying to turn on and use their phone while driving scares the h** out of me. Hope I'm not around where you're driving.

So correct me if I'm wrong but didn't Samsung do a software update to the S10 several months ago that greatly improved the fingerprint scanner?

From what I read about it, the scanner is not as fast as the one on the Galaxy S9 but for the most part it improved things quite a bit. I don't have the S1O but just thought I'd ask.

It was improved on the S10 and on the Note 10 it moved higher. I have no real complaints on FPS but its major drawback compared to rear mounted capacitive sensors is you usually have to look where you're pressing.

Welcome to Android Central! Hope you enjoy yourself around the forums! That would have been a cool thing to see, for sure. Too bad that it is not happening.
