S21 Ultra and getting black screen on phone hang up

Verizon S21 Ultra
Been having this problem since I got the phone. Did a hard reset, no help.
WIFI calling disabled. Press Side Key to end calls is disabled.
Under Motions and Gestures: Lift to Wake, Keep screen on while viewing: enabled. Screen timeout 1 minute. Accidental touch protection enabled. Touch sensitivity disabled
So I will be on a call and after a few minutes I pull the phone away from my ear to hang up. But the screen is black.
I have to hit the side button to get the screen to reappear.

Please help!

A case or screen protector interfering with the proximity sensor, perhaps?

I agree, that's usually due to some issue with the proximity sensor -- often something blocking it.

I dont have a screen protector. Ive tried 2 different cases. I can tap on the proximity sensor while the case is on and it reads my finger
