S21+ Warm/Overheating?

Hi, so I just bought my S21+ 4 days ago and I noticed that my phone gets warm (33C-38C) when in normal use (browsing, watching youtube, instagram, etc).

Its not alarmingly hot, but it is pretty warm even indoor, especially on the upper part of the phone(I assume thats where the processor is mounted). Using CPU monitor, for the past few days the average temp is around 32-33C, but often times the CPU temp shot up to 40-43C randomly but not for a long time (I guess this is why the average temp says what it is).

Now, I understand physics, the temp wont go lower than the surrounding temp, and I live in a tropical country so that might play a part in it. But is that temp supposed to be normal for an S21+ because I upgraded from a Note9 and my Note9 was never that warm to the touch on just a normal use.

Battery is fine though (I think), last charge was 1 day 9 hour ago with 7 h 35 min screen time and I am at 30% now.

Should I be concerned? Should I ask for a replacement? Should I wait for a couple more days and let the phone settle first? I did set it up with a smartswitch, some people says that cause the high temp? If thats the case what should I do? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Welcome to Android Central! Those temps don't seem too bad to me. How's your cell signal? Poor cell signal is a common culprit for increased temps, since it makes the phone work harder to maintain the signal (even if you're also connected to wi-fi).

Also, do you have a case on? If it's a really hefty case, it might interfere with heat dissipation. (Material might also matter -- I recall having a case that was transparent plastic -- not TPU -- which did not seem to dissipate heat well at all, causing the phone to noticeably warm up.)

Hi B.Diddy, thank you for the reply. Well, cell signal is a problem in my country, It fluctuates a lot but the best I get is usually -103 dBm might go down to -97 but thats pretty much it. Could that be the reason the CPU load fluctuates a lot as well?

I have a case on that I bought with the phone on a promo, It is an official Samsung case the bulky one for protection (hard rubber around and inside with a plasticky hard case on the back). I'll remove it today and use the phone as is to see if that changes anything. I did remove it yesterday to feel if the phone is really heating up or not, but it felt even warmer since I can touch the phone directly.

The cell signal is probably the main cause. If it becomes a problem, you could try turning on Airplane Mode and then turning wi-fi back on if you have a good wi-fi signal (as long as the phone and your carrier support wi-fi calling).

Thank you for the advice. I will try it out and see if there is any changes in the temperature.

Ah, I see. Okay then, I will wait for a few more days and then I will let u guys know if the problem still persist. Thank you B. Diddy and mustang7757 for the helpful answers.

Hi everyone, so It has been about 10 days since I got the phone and a week since my last post. The average temperature of the phone did not really change that much. I followed B. Diddy's advice and not use the case and the temperature is still the same, also did the airplane mode for a day and nothing changed on the temp also. But I did notice a few things.

So, when I use the phone whether it be indoor and outdoor, the temp when not in use is somewhere around 36-37C and can go up to 41C when in use for browsing, etc.
And when I'm in an airconditioned room (surrounding room temp at approx. 24C), the temp when not in use can go as low as 27C and when in use it can go up to 35-40C.

CPU Monitor keeps saying that the average temp is 33-34C for the last 24hour though.

But I keep seeing spikes like this every now and then.

I still think those temps are not particularly unusual for normal usage, but maybe others with the same phone can chime in with temps they've observed.
