S3 Defective Backlight?

Hi,
Just bought a new S3 for my mum and, when comparing it to my own S3 as well as my dad's, I noticed the screen is considerably dimmer under the same exact conditions. Switching off auto-brightness and setting brightness to full yields to very bright screens on mini and my dad's but a considerably dimmer screen on that of my mum (i.e. it's not an auto brightness issue on which I found many threads). I've checked all the setting and they're set identical to ours (i.e. color set to 'standard' etc.). At this point I'm wondering if:

- I'm dealing with a defective backlight? Since it's new and under warranty, should I get it replaced?
- Maybe new phones are coming out with a lower backlight (e.g. to save battery). I noticed my mum's came with the latest software so it could be a more recent hardware version as well when compared to my own/my dad's?
- Is there any way to calibrate the backlight or check it's ok through some sensor readings?

Thanks for all your help.

Joe

If you bought it locally, I'd take it back and ask to compare it to another new one. If the other new one is brighter, then ask for a swap.

OLED screens don't have a backlight. But it does sound like something is wrong with the screen.
