s3 mini power and home button only work intermittently

I've had this phone for over a year now with no problems until the last few days where both home button and power button only work intermittently.
Also the screen now lights up when locked every few minutes.
Tried a factory reset with no success. I haven't gotten the phone wet or dropped it or anything.
Anyone had similar problems?

Welcome to Android Central! Try booting into Safe Mode, which disables all 3rd party apps. If the problem persists, then it's more likely that there's an issue with the system or hardware, and you'd probably have to contact Samsung. Restart the Device in Safe Mode - Samsung Galaxy S® III
