I want to upgrade to an S3. I have a few different lines on my account and one of them is eligible for the 2 year pricing. Would I be able to buy the S3 at the discounted price and not activate it on that line. But in turn activate it on my line? This way i don't lose my unlimited data. Thanks for the responses. My bro in law claims he was able to do this and Verizon was OK with it. Just looking for some insight on the situation

Will Verizon make me activate a data plan for that certain line? Since its just a normal dumb phone line. I could always throw the "this is a present and if the line holder wants to upgrade. They'll activate it."

U will not be charged for data if u put a dumb line on there. I confirmed with VZW all they care About is the context renewal

The line that's eligible for an upgrade is just a regular cell phone. I'm just worried if I tell them that I want to use the upgrade for that line on an S3 that they may reject me due to not selling a data plan with that phone.

You won't be able to keep your unlimited plan if you haven't even pre-ordered yet. As of June 28th, the only way you'll be able to keep it is if you pay the unsubsidized price.

You might get lucky, but that is the current policy. Alot of people who pre-ordered are having enough trouble keeping their unlimited plan even though Verizon didn't make the announcement until June 12th and the new plans didn't go into effect until the 28th.

The only workaround I can think of is if you get it on your dumbphone line, drop the share anything plan you'll be forced to get for a regular plan and then activate it on your line. I'm not sure if it'll work, but its worth a shot (and please share if it does work)

Yes you can upgrade and switch. Done it plenty of times on my 5 lines. Once the dumb phone is switched back to a regular phone no data package is required. Trust me there are no issues with what you want to do.

His line that is not being upgraded will be able to keep the plan. All he is doing is upgrading another line and then switching the phone to another line. As long as he's not renewing the line that has the unlimited plan he's fine.

ATT let me do this, Best Buy called it an alternate upgrade. My wife line was eligible, but mine was not. All good.

BUT......
Be careful. When I was in BB doing my upgrade, there was a couple in there trying to the an upgrade from some dumb phones to an iPhone, I dont know all the particulars, but the guy basically told them the MUST upgrade to the new family share plans, they could not keep their existing plan. They guy did the math outloud and it was much more expensive than he was already paying.

So should I go to a Verizon retail store, Walmart. Or best buy?

Or call Verizon direct and have them ship it to me?

Just called Verizon direct. I can go ahead and use the upgrade as discussed above. I can either go to a retail location or call them again. Since the device hasn't launched yet. I can't bill it to my account. Which I wanted to do. So I'm waiting til launch day. I just don't want to activate it in store.
