Hey guys, im new to the forums here and to smartphones at all next week i will be getting an upgrade for verizon and have finally decided on a smart phone. I am completely new to smartphones but am fairly technically savvy and am sure I will catch on quick. I have been doing a lot of research and have narrowed by decision on 2 phones the Galaxy s3 or the Galaxy nexus. With my upgrade the S3 is 200 dollars and the nexus is only 50.

What i'm looking for in this post are responses from people who have experienced both phones and to determine if the extra 150 bones is worth it for the s3 or if the nexus will suffice. I am looking for a phone that the display looks great and games/movies look good. also one with a easy to understand layout and which is very customizable. I am not big into photos so the camera quality is not a big factor. Thank you for your opinions in helping me decide :)

edit: I forgot the mention another factor in my decision is durability of the phone and availability of great and protective cases

i traded in my nexus for an s3. The speaker on the nexus isn't as loud as the s3 (for both phone calls and audio) and for me the call quality was horrible on the nexus.

In my mind, it's worth the extra $150...but $150 may be worth more or less to me than it is to you...

GNex is pretty great device, from what I have read. I've had a chance to use one, but I haven't ever owned one. None the less, it really didn't impress me as much as the S3 did/does.

I'd have to go back and look at specs to see how the GNex compares to the S3...but the S3 certainly handles videos and games just fine. As far as cases go, I'm pretty sure there are great ones out there for either device.

My take? If costs saving is high priority for you, go with the GNex...but if you can swing the extra $150 for an S3, you will NOT be sorry that you did.

You may also want to check retailers like Best Buy and Amazon, that occasionally run deals phones better than what you get buying directly from VZW.

EDIT: For example, Amazon currently list the Verizon GS3 for $150. You can buy from there as long you're upgrade -eligible.
